Far From Moscow

What do get when you cross a creative professor, some Russian punk bands and students who love music?
Well, once upon a time, Far from Moscow….Professor Dave from UCLA’s Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures came up with a great idea for his students: Create a website that they would manage that would focus on emerging Russian Music. This would help them learn about Russian culture and also satiate their desires of music and tecnology. Man, I wish I had creative teachers like that in school…

St. Mary’s Life Teen in Dedham, Ma is one of the best Life Teen programs in the country. Jason called us and said, “Dude…we need the best website ever…” We hope we obliged him… We actually liked this design so much that we didn’t want to give it to him! But anyway, he’s really good at Rock, Paper, Scissors and he ended up with it…
If you’re ever in the Boston area and you like rockin’ Catholic Youth programs be sure to stop by…

We put this one together like a scrapbook… some old paper, rip the edges a bit, throw a couple of layers on top and of course, throw in some picture frames for the good folks at St. Mark’s. Youth Minister Tim is doing great things for the youth in Huntersville, NC. Go Tim!

Barbara runs a tight ship and an awesome Day Spa in Sherman, TX. When Barbara came to us for a website she had certain specifications… good looking, match current branding, easy to use and update and done quickly… oh, aren’t those everyone’s expectations? No problem, we’re used to that at Kickstart and we really like Barbara so we whipped it out.
If you’re in Sherman, TX drop by the Serenity Day Spa and maybe we’ll see you there… We’ll be one’s with cucumbers on our eyes…

Tamara Guadin, the chief consultant and owner of Fashion-Savvy.com is a sharp gal. We built a great website for her in exchange for her coming by our office and showing us all how to dress so we didn’t look like a bunch of nerds. Now we look seriously “savvy” but unfortunately we’re behind our computers 12 hours a day and no one can see how cool we look…
But hey, we’re not all nerds, so if you need a new look for that luncheon with John McCain you’ve just been invited to, give Tamara a call…

Isidore Bard is a young songwriter out of Iowa who after travelling the world was inspired to write catchy, lyrically deep songs of his travels. His name album Roadsongs and Parables, released by Mediatrix Records, rocks!
In addition, Isidore is now studying for the priesthood. We wish him the best and were honored to do his website.

The Pines Catholic Camp

The Pines is a Catholic Youth Camp in East Texas that’s been around for years. Unfortunately so had their website… It was definitely in need of a face lift and when Erin called us we got right to work. We integrated a full scale Content Management System in, redesigned the entire site and then trained them on how to upload new content, pictures, videos, etc to keep everything fresh and hip.

When we first met Tom we constantly forgot how to spell his last name. So.. when we designed his site we made sure to make it really, really big so no one else would make that mistake.
Even if you forget how to spell his last name, you for sure won’t forget Tom. He’s a great guy and we loved working with him!

St. Mary’s Catholic School

St. Mary’s is a wonderful school in Sherman, TX and they needed a site to match the beauty of the people and the place. We designed the site with lots of scrolls and antique looking elements to emphasis the long standing history of both the Catholic faith and the school itself (which has been around since the 1800′s.)
We built in a CMS as usual and the teachers and staff are having a great time updating and tweaking out the site. We also locked down certain areas of the site and issues passwords for parents to keep out anyone who doesn’t belong in certain areas.

St. Francis of Assisi Parish takes Mission Trips to Mexico each year and wanted their students to be able to blog and share pictures from the trip with the rest of the Church. We set them up with a hip blog and they certainly used it!

Joe Miller heads up RJMiller Consulting and is probably one of the smartest guys we’ve met ever. He runs a marketing and media consultation group that works extensively with international and nationally held hi-tech companies. He always finds time for a good conversation though and he makes a great bottle of wine…

We designed this site for singer/songwriter Rebecca Barnett. She is hitting the road hard trying to build her career up. She needed something easy to maintain and yet still fresh looking. We used the “scrapbook” style to show lots of her pictures, (Hey, if you’re pretty why not have lots of pictures right?) and overlaid it with a “grunge” style page that repeated dynamically.

If we had time to watch TV we would probably get a plasma tv. And if you get a web designer a plasma tv, he’s going to want some plasma burn to go along with that. And if he gets plasma burn on his new plasma tv then he’s going to want to get that fixed and then he’s going to have to call The Plasma Doctor. Whew! Good thing we did his website…

We’ve known Nick for years and sincerely believe him to be one of the funniest human beings on the planet. In addition to being a comic, Nick is also a musician and a speaker and this part of him has sometimes been overshadowed by his “funny side.”
The challenge with this site was to be serious and professional and show that side of Nick, but also not lose his great sense of humour. We chose to do it with a standard business style design but then used some humorous pictures on the right side. Each page changes to a new picture and overall the site shows a good mixture of who Nick is.

Net Ministries develops teams of volunteer young people and trains them to minister to their peers. They travel all over the country and needed a site with some mobility that they could not only manage from national headquarters but from a laptop in the back of a van driving across country as well.
The site had to use “NET Blue” and “NET Green” but other than that it was left up to us. We enjoyed working on it and we think they enjoy using it. Check out NET Ministries…

Catholic Mission Trips, INC

Steve Nasche from CMT Inc called us and wanted a funky logo, and a website design that would look like it belonged in the mission fields. Not knowing much about the Mission fields, we decided to do some “research” and went to Mexico with one of his groups. Wow! They seriously have it together! It was a great trip and gave us good inspiration for our design process…
(Nope, we don’t always travel to you to get inspiration but hey, how often do you get invited to Mexico right?)

Like New York City, where he lives and works, Keith Paine is smooth and gritty in all the right places…..and he needed a website that would fit him like a glove. Like we do with a lot of artists, we popped some of Keith’s music into the iPod and got to know him a little and then spun out the creative genius that is now KeithPaine.com… Stop by, fill up your drink and listen to some of the sweetness known as Keith Paine…
